Posidonia 2026 opens today at the Metropolitan Expo in Athens. Running from 1 to 5 June, this year's edition is the largest in the exhibition's 57-year history: over 2,220 exhibitors from 83 countries, 45,000 square metres of floor space, 24 national pavilions, and more than 40,000 maritime professionals expected across the week.
Why It Matters
There is a reason the world's shipping industry gathers in Athens every two years. Greece operates nearly 5,800 vessels carrying over 19% of total global tonnage and 61% of the EU merchant fleet. Greek owners rank first worldwide in oil tankers and LNG carriers. Currently, 725 Greek-owned vessels are under construction at yards around the world, representing roughly $60 billion in newbuilding investment. Posidonia is where that order book meets its supply chain.
The 2026 agenda reflects the forces shaping the industry right now: geopolitical disruption and shifting trade routes, decarbonisation under the IMO net-zero framework, the rise of AI and digitalisation in fleet operations, and the growing weight of cybersecurity and seafarer welfare. Over 100 exhibitors are presenting green technologies, and more than 30 companies are demonstrating AI solutions built specifically for shipping.
