Elefsina Shipyard sits in the sheltered waters of Eleusis Bay, a short run west of Piraeus. Under ONEX it has grown into one of the largest shipbuilding and repair complexes in Greece, offering owners serious dry dock capacity beside the country's main port.
Dock Capacity and Vessel Sizes
The yard operates three conventional floating docks, covering tonnage from small coasters to Suezmax.
| Floating dock | Vessel size | Max length | Max beam | Lifting capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dock I | 22,000 DWT | 164 m | 22.8 m | 7,500 t |
| Dock II | 75,000 DWT | 230 m | 32.2 m | 18,000 t |
| Dock III | 120,000 DWT | 276 m | 40 m | 28,000 t |
That range covers handysize and panamax bulkers, product and crude tankers up to around 120,000 DWT, container feeders, ferries, Ro/Ro and passenger tonnage. Each dock carries its own pair of cranes. Depending on the mix of sizes, the yard holds nine to eleven vessels at the same time.
Afloat Repairs for Larger Tonnage
Vessels above dock capacity are worked alongside. The yard has over 1,500 metres of quays and wharfs served by cranes of up to 40 tons, accepts ships of up to 500,000 DWT for afloat repairs, and allows a maximum alongside draught of 9.5 metres. A 25 ton floating crane adds reach where required.

Location and Access
The yard lies about 10 nautical miles from the Piraeus anchorages, in a bay that is calm, deep and well served. Athens International Airport is close for crew changes, the Piraeus supply chain delivers spares the same day, and the Revithoussa LNG terminal lies across the bay. Vessels can hold at anchor nearby before or after docking, which keeps scheduling flexible. A rail link to the national network is being completed, opening intermodal routes into Europe.

Workshops and Equipment
Over 35,000 square metres of workshops and storage sit behind the quays, served by overhead cranes of up to 30 tons and mobile cranes of up to 90 tons:
- Mechanical, pipe and castings: propeller shafts, rudder systems, pumps, main engines and diesel engines
- Boiler and steel plate shop: cutting, welding and forming of steel and alloy plate
- Electrical shop: motors and generators, with drying and paint chamber and rewinding machines
- Woodworking shop: bearings for shafts and rudders, plus cabins, decks and lifeboats
With the trades on one site, a docking moves cleanly from one stage to the next.
Newbuilding Activity
The yard is building as well as repairing, with a series of tugs and a line of ABS Class eco vessels for maritime waste collection on order. Across Elefsina and Syros the group has passed 890 ships repaired. An active yard means a deeper pool of trades, materials and workshop capacity on site.
